Good Afternoon All,

I am set to interview next week for a position in the Admissions Department (Recruiting position) at a prestigious UC in Los Angeles.  Part of the interview requires candidates to prepare a 5-minute presentation  targeting top-ranked high school students to attend the Southern California UC versus their competitor in Northern California.

I feel like I have SO much information ............ how in the world does someone pull off a unique, persuasive plug in FIVE minutes?!

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

My guess (from out of left field) is that they want you to think in terms of some kind of college fair, where you'll be competing for students' attention with lots of other schools, and you'll likely only get a few minutes with each student as they walk by your booth.

I was just trying to find a paper from a workshop I attended. It was a workshop on teaching and they had us do this 10 point presentation to other members. I forgot how long they gave us... something like one minute and we had to give a presentation on what we teach and how we teach - it was an interesting exercise in how to condense what you want to say in a very short time.

i can't find the paper.. .but it was fairly self-explanatory.

Try writing the main bullet points and condense them under "fields" and subfields... and edit out what seems extraneous.

it is called the 'elevator pitch' in entrepreneurial studies, there are about 3000 books dealing with it.

yes, that's what it is.
Of course, you'd expect Big Football Flagship State U to have entrepreneurs teaching their teachers how to teach.

Usually I'm cynical about this sort of thing, but i thought it was fairly helpful to learn conciseness and clarity.
