i share the concerns of people here in terms of post-mla-interview callbacks. please advise....when do most people hear? is it already time to start giving up?

We can't call post-MLA until we have a dept. meeting, which we can't have until classes start, Jan. 17.

Some places call earlier because they get back to school earlier than we do, and/or they don't operate democratically. We don't call until we've had a dept. meeting.

I got one call yesterday, from a department that had told me they wouldn't be making calls for a few more weeks. I don't know what happened there. I just got an email from another department saying that they plan to meet next Tuesday and--if they can settle on a list in one meeting--they'll call then. If it takes more than one, they still plan to call by the end of next week. Other departments told me to expect to wait until towards the end of this month. So it's quite a grab bad. Take it easy.

My MLA and phone interviews all said they would contact mid-January at the earliest...too early to start worrying yet.
I did get one campus visit offer but that hasn't even been solidified. That is at the end of January. I did the phone interview the first week in Decemeber.

We've already invited candidates for all 3 positions we interviewed for at MLA and the first of the candidates (out of a total of 9) is scheduled to arrive next week. Since we are doing multiple hires, we've been operating on a very quick schedule. Schools operate differently, but for what it's worth, we're a Southern Research I.

oooh, Dr. Mom...my stomach dipped when I read your post because my favorite school was also interviewing for 3 positions. Promise me you aren't merely masking your identity with the "R-1 in the South" designation! My long shot isn't South, and I'd like to hold out hope just a little bit more!
