What is the usual time off for 12 month faculty?

I am looking at an offer that gives 16 hours/month vacation and 8 hours/month sick leave.

24 days vacation days per year per year plus administrative closings (14 days) seems OK to me - is this typical?

Check to see if the vacation and sick leave is intended for administration and staff.  Faculty is usually determined by the teaching load.  If you are not expected to teach summer courses, then you will have the summer off, usually spent researching and publishing.

This is actually an administrative position (50% teaching, 50 % dept. Head)

I get 15/15 hours per month vacation/sick leave, so the deal's about the same as yours for vacation and better on sick. Check to make sure that you are not required to take your vacation at certain times. Some colleges require that you take your vacation hours at pre-determined points throughout the year (Christmas, spring break, etc.).
