Don't forget the alarming teen pregnancy rate, Natalie Manes mom on the local TV news, and flooded streets capable of washing your car away with only an inch of rain (if you can draw casual links between those you get a prize).

One positive, the campus recreation center is excellent (but the architecture building is hideous, go figure).

I'm a native Texan and have been to Lubbock on many occasions, including a 3 month stint (in the summer).  I didn't really mind the geography/climate, but it can be a shock to east coasters. The thing I didn't like was the atmosphere of the city - so conservative, still.  . . If you can handle that aspect, you will likely find it an OK place to live.

I'm not going to defend "The General" in terms of temper--but ask the people at the IU library in Bloomington about Bobby's tireless fund-raising for them. He also historically has had about the highest graduation rates of any coach, and some of his hottest temper was reserved for students who were not trying in their classes. Unlike 90% of the coaches out there, Knight actually respects academics.

Thanks for sharing. I just wanted some feedback from someone who is not involved in the interview process. I have to say, I really liked the dept. We'll see...
