Are the search committees even aware when you reapply for a position. The posting is identical to last year, but the application process is different - via actual packets not via email.
I feel like I should jsut go for it since the school is one I like, in a location I like and I feel I have a stronger packet this year (learnt a lot last year!) but I am worried that they'll see the name and just dump my packet on principle - didn't get beyond the initial review last year.
thoughts?

BTW - my field is relatively competive - I landed one on campus visit last year out of around 100 canidates. I figure I am up against between 75 and 150 canidates at each job I respond to.

Sometimes it is a vastly different committee, and they might not be aware of your first application. Sometimes it is the same committee, but I wouldn't count on them remembering your application from last year or digging through the pile from last year.
You have a stronger application....you aren't the same person.
There are many reasons why a search is re-opened. It can't hurt you to re-apply.
Best of luck to you!

Go ahead and apply again. I currently hold a t-t position that I got after reapplying for a job. The worse thing that will happen is that you won't be contacted for an interview.

Reapply, committees are often different and even if they aren't they may look are your new material in different light a second time around. I sat on a committee that hired someone who had been eliminated early in the process on the previous years failed search. We all scratched our heads wondering why she had been illiminated so early the year before we could have saved a lot of time and money.

If you have more experience, should you write something like, "since last year I have published two papers in XX and BB and served on YYYbbb and taught a class in HHHH" in your cover letter if you are reapplying, or how do you suggest wording it ?
