An offer was just made to me too, and they want an answer right away.  I've stalled a little bit to assess my other job options and to mull it over, but I wonder how long I can do this without ticking them off.  I certainly wouldn't want to start out on a bad footing if I end up taking it.  Advice?

I'd be interested in the responses.  I was recently in a similar position, and I may be in one again depending on what happens with an upcoming phone interview.  However, we can't offer any advice without any specifics.  What is the offer?  Field? Location? Type of institution? Teaching load? What are your priorities? How long have you been on the market?

As you know, it's late in the season, it's possible but not likely that something else will come along.  So I would say you would have to have some serious reservations to turn it down.  Do you?
