I know, I know, nothing is the same at every campus . . . BUT . . . in your experince, what is the typical wait time between a phone interview and campus invite (IF one is forthcoming)?   I had the phone call last Monday, the sixth of June.

Thanks . . .

I just recently had a phone interview happen at 11:30am and they called with the campus invite that afternoon.

Now I'm waiting for the other call...that was supposed to have come Friday. Oh well. Looks like no news could be bad...

I had about a week between phone interview and invitation - I thought that was long, but I had a real good feeling after the phone interview and was pretty sure I would be invited.

I had a phone interview and they invited me on the phone to visit the next day, but I happened to be in the area. I think they wanted to save me the extra trip. I think a lot of the waiting period has to do with how many applicants they interviewed by phone. If they phone interviewed a lot of candidates, there's going to be a longer wait. I was hired under strange circumstances, too, and I don't think they did that many phone interviews; in fact, I might have been the only one.

Generally in these cases, no news means no news.

Up to two weeks is typical. Hang in there.

In my one interviewing experience, they took like two months to initially contact me - I had almost forgotten I applied - and then I got a call to be invited for the interview. I didn't have to do a phone interview. The interview was in two weeks, and they let me choose the slot I wanted. After the interview, it took them three weeks to let me know they decided not to fill the position :( How frustrating - that's like three months of waiting!

I would actually consider that short! And they actually let you know that it's over! WOW!!

Sorry Jennifer but I thought I'd point out that using "like' in your posts should be questioned. Valley speak isn't 'academic speak' not matter how much students prefer it!

The English language is ever evolving. Let it go.

Usually I'm in agreement with pedant, but there's nothing incorrect about saying "like" occasionally, especially for a math person.  Just so long as she knows that less is continuous and fewer is discrete, it's like totally ok.

Points taken. However, I am used to hearing it in oral speech; but never in written speech. I mark down my students if they use it. There is a difference, after all, between written and oral speech.

's cool?

But a forum is not and never will be formal speech (unless specifically assigned as such).

Bing Bang Bong AP! Beautiful!

PS. I just found it funny to read 'like' in written speech as I never see it in my student papers, no matter how much, or how often, they speak that way!

This cannot possibly be the original pedant. S/he made six errors in the original post (2 missing commas, 3 single quotes that should have been double quotes, and the aforementioned typo) and a glaring semicolon error in the second post. Unless pedant has taken up drinking and posting...
