I have been in Administration at public and private schools for over ten years.  I have always wanted to move into higher education and may have an idealistic idea that it will be more rewarding and a better career move.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My advice is to please be specific as you can about your experience.  What have you been doing at public and private schools?

Where do your interests lie?  In faculty positions or in staff positions?

Yes, it will be a better career move, if for no other reason than you don't have to deal with parents!

Don't have to deal with parents?  Where do you teach?  Our helicopter parents (because they hover) are in contact with their student's teachers, coaches, RAs, and anyone else available when they perceive there's a problem, with or without their offspring's encouragement.

Thanks for the feedback.   This was my first foray into a "chat-room" and as soon as I looked at it it seemed inadaquate.

My experience has been in public and private secondary schools.  My last several years have been in proprietary education in a therapuetic enviroment. My long standing interests have been in faculty, but my skills seem to be in staff and administration.  My resume will best fit administration also.  My education would also need to be enhanced to move into a faculty positon.  But, at this point it may be worth it if that is where my passion is.

Again, my fear is to devote a major career change on the thought that teaching in higher education or working at a small college will be as rewarding as I have in my mind.  I feel very comfortable and at home in the small town college atmosphere.  Certainly not in the 6 hour/week high stress highway I work in daily.

Helicopter parents??? Dale, I teach at a community college with the proletariat. But I've taught junior high and high school and was engaged to a superintendent, so community college looked like Nirvana.
