Always "dress-up". No one will fault you for wearing a jacket and tie, etc. If for some reason it becomes unusually warm, you can take off the jacket, etc, but do arrive with it on.

Do you really think that the OP is still sitting around wondering, almost 3 years later?

Voxy, You're forgetting STIV -- the Forum's Star Trek IV ability to go back in time to retrieve the intended recipient of messages.  (Like Kirk did with the whales.)

I haven't clicked on the link from the person who revived the thread, but the post looks pretty spammy. Maybe I'm too suspicious to appreciate a stranger's oddly-timed helpfulness.

Kirk saved the whales? I think I missed every Star Trek movie between Wrath of Khan and the one with Alfre Woodward.

If the OP hasn't heard a decision yet, maybe this belongs in one of those "Rude Search Committee?" threads.

I have a related question.  I have my first campus visit in April (yeah!) at a smaller state university.  I will definitely wear my suit for the interview, which will be on a Monday.  I arrive in the afternoon on Saturday, though (since I'm being flown in from abroad, a Saturday-night stay cut the flight cost in half).  I'm told that someone will be taking me out for all my meals and showing me around town while I'm there.  In this case, it is not really part of the interview and quite informal, but I guess that that someone (or those someones) will be "evaluating" me throughout.  What would be the appropriate dress on these occasions?  My intuition is to dress a little more casually: slacks, a dress-y shirt, sports jacket, no tie.  Does this seem appropriate, or should I stick with the more formal attire?  Comments/suggestions greatly appreciated!

I think it would perfectly appropriate to go with the business casual look you described for the weekend activities.

I had the same dilemma and I wore wool trousers, a very thin sweater, and a loosely-structured jacket over it.  The women I met with were wearing the same thing, exept for one who wore jeans and a sweater.  I would think the equivalent for men would be what you suggest - button down, maybe khakis or other smart casual pants, and a jacket with no tie.  If you have a sportjacket in a more casual fabric - corduroy, for example - I think that would be appropriate.  If you weekend activities involve walking around a lot, wear casual shoes (but no sneakers).
