Hi all,
I went on two campus visits in the past three weeks and got offered one job and not the other...and now don't know what to do.

The job I didn't get was my first choice in every way and a good fit.

The job I got offered is okay but not better than my current job in courses or salary or location though it is 3/3 load versus the 4/4 I have now.

I have a tenure track job that is pretty good, but am wondering if it is time to move on and take something else. Should I move on just for the sake of moving?

The job I have now is tenure track at a liberal arts university (not selective) the job offered is at a state school but a branch of a flagship U.

It will be easier to jump from a 3/3 university to a 2/2 research intensive univ. (if that's your ultimate goal).

It sounds to me like even if you take this job, you're not going to be satisfied there and you will still be on the job market next year looking for a better fit.  You don't want to establish a reputation as someone who leaves positions frequently, so maybe you should stay in your current position until the better fit does come along.

I would ask why, if you have a t-t-job already, you don't want to stay and gain tenure? Not that you need to tell me, but answering that to yourself might go a long way to helping you decide what to do.

And why did you apply for the job in the first place if it's not any better than the one you have now?
