I have worked a lot with adult students with ADHD.  It's real -- and it doesn't have anything to do with attention or hyperactivity, when you are dealing with an adult.  I believe that they are going to change the name of the disorder to reflect this.  What it DOES effect is executive function.  These students are not stupid, but need a great deal of structure compared to some others.  If you write a very literally and specifically worded exam, they won't take longer than other students.

For all you doubters, old-school or not, I highly recommend "Overcoming Dyslexia" by Sally Shaywitz.   Thanks to MRI's, CAT scans, etc., research is showing us how the brain processes written language (or not, as the case may be).   BTW, Shaywitz is a Yale M.D., so I think we can trust her.
