I'm a woman in a full-time t-t job. There's a male adjunct in my department, about my age (on the older side), whom I find rather attractive. We run into each other occasionally and always have long, fun conversations. I don't feel a pressing need to pursue this, but if I did, would it be inappropriate, weird, etc.?

I don't see a problem since your both adults and both faculty.

The US is so sexually repressed. Just do him. Sure glad I don't live there any more. Christ with a crutch. It's not a student.

Many schools have policies that exclude dating/romantic relationships between anyone (student, faculty, secretary, cleaner, of any gender) and a person who *has supervisory authority over the person* (of any gender). Unless oxenfree has any kind of authority (as in being "mentor" to a group of adjuncts) there's nothing wrong with that relationship -- and after all, a lot of our adjuncts are spouses or partners of faculty, and which came first is no longer always a matter of living memory. If some situation comes up (e.g., oxenfree is asked to do teaching evaluations on a set of adjuncts before they're re-hired, etc.) s/he should simply say "it would not be appropriate for me to serve in that capacity this year" -- or should be specific, if the climate permits (as it would around here).

Pedant is a cutie pie, but I say hook up with the adjunct, too. You're both adults.

Where did you come from? I would have recognized YOUR name but don't seem to recall having seen it.

I know that, Papi. But did you just arrive on this board or are you somebody I know who changed his name?

The fact that you're asking implies you feel weird about it. Do you? Why? It doesn't seem as though it would be wrong to date this adjunct (just from a legal perspective), but if you think it would be uncomfortable, that's a reason to think more closely about your own feelings before doing anything else.

I know you know, gorda. I've posted before, under another name, but sparingly; some of the stuff is too heavy for me, but I read a lot of it.
