As a freeway flier, I HATED them because it was always a huge loss in income. Even intersessions used to irritate me because it was another way NOT to earn what little I could. Now I love them... look forward to them... am sad when they're over.
So tell me true--do you love or hate the holidays?

The holidays themselves, I don't really care either way. But time off, woohoo!
Speaking of "holidays" have any of you caught any of the to-do about major store no longer advertising "Christmas" but instead for "Holiday" shopping? Some so-called Christians are upset at this exclusion. But to quit pretending that gluttony, materialism, and consumerisn have anything to do with Christianity makes to me, at least if you look at the heart of Christianity, not what it's been twisted into by many today.

I have a lingering distaste for commercial holidays because I worked in retail for some years before I began teaching.
As an adjunct I didn't really feel like I _had_ holidays; because I worked at multiple schools (with multiple calendars), my winter break was always 2~3 weeks long, and my summer break was about four days.
I do love time off though. It helps me refresh, forget about the annoyances or niceties of current classes, and prepare for the coming ones.
Holiday food is nice, too.

I'm with otoh. Holiday doesn't mean time off. It means time to catch up.
