Northern Michigan University, located in Michigan's unique Upper Peninsula, is a dynamic four-year, public, coeducational university which offers 180 degree programs to nearly 9,400 undergraduate and graduate students. Known for providing outstanding personal attention, about 80 percent of NMU's 300-plus faculty members have doctorates or the highest degree in their fields, and a hallmark of the NMU experience is that full-time faculty members teach at all levels - freshmen through graduate courses. Northern is one of three universities in the state of Michigan to serve a community college role for its region.

NMU Campus
Northern Michigan University’s physical campus is made up of more than 50 facilities. It is located just minutes from the shore of Lake Superior and downtown Marquette, Mich. It includes the world’s largest wooden dome structure. The campus has been cited nationally as one of the world most densely wired and wireless in the United States.

NMU Achievements
•  NMU is also one of only 300 colleges and universities to have earned the Carnegie classification of “community-engaged” campus. Northern has two nationally recognized leadership programs in the Student Leader Fellowship Program and Superior Edge – the first which is selective to 50 students per year and the second which is open to any NMU students. About a third of the student body participates in Superior Edge.

•  Northern’s largest academic program is art and design. NMU has received several national and international recognitions, including being one of the few non-art schools to be selected to exhibit at the Salone Sattelite in Milan, Italy, the largest furniture design exhibition in the world.

•  NMU was the first university in the nation to build and operate its own WiMAX (4G) network. President Barack Obama recognized the achievement with a visit to the university to highlight the network as a broadband role model for rural America.

Northern Michigan University offers more than 110 years of history in educating students in an environment that must be experienced to be appreciated.
