The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY
THE QUESTION
RESPONSES
BACKGROUND

Interesting that Philip Coates omits from his recommended reading list the book that made Ayn Rand famous, which is also the only one of her novels that doesn't contain much politics: The Fountainhead.

Lots of people are turned off by Atlas Shrugged because of its political views, but love The Fountainhead.

Coates is right that Rand's philosophy is not primarily about politics. It's largely her own fault that a lot of people get that misimpression. There's far too much on that subject, and too little on others, in her writing.
