I have a certain amount of ambivalence about the entire issue as I come out of the other side of the educational house. I am the dean of students at a small private school.
My excitement with distance technology includes the ability to access a great deal of information and exchange ideas with students without regard to time and space. My frustration includes the inherent lack of personal care and concern for a student's total development.
My profession is just beginning to grapple with the implications which are every bit as disturbing as those for our faculty colleagues.
