How can one race of people claim to be morally superior to another? We are all human beings regardless of our heritage and are therefore all responsible for the evil and good perpetuated by man. White Europeans are not the only race of people capable and guilty of injustices. War, violence, and destruction are not characteristics unique to the white man. One would not make the claim that only whites are capable of compassion, love, and intellect. So why then is it acceptable to claim that negative human characteristics are exclusively white characteristics. This is just another form of racism.
As for Rigoberta Menchú, I, like many other college students, have had this text presented to me as truth. I fear writing my honest opinion of this book which has been assigned as a paper. My grade may suffer as a result. I fear being attacked in class if I question the legitimacy of Menchú's text. I will be labeled a racist. This is a problem in major universities across the country. Instead of presenting true histories, which is often the claim of liberal professors, they are actually substituting one lie for another. In their eyes this lie is acceptable because it is their lie, it serves to promote their political agenda.
I thought that college was supposed to be a place where knowledge was allowed to flow freely. Instead, it is the battleground of liberals who force feed students one side of the story in attempts to promote social change through higher education. At least I am aware of the crisis. Most students just accept whatever they hear as the truth. I wonder if I am alone or if there are other students like me who feel the same way but are afraid to speak up.
