I eagerly await the rigorous investigation and factual dissection of Henry Kissinger's most recent memoirs, which mainstream critics of the type who've criticized Menchú's autobiography must certainly be poised to undertake in their ongoing effort to ensure the factual veracity of contemporary historical accounts.
Transcripts of recorded telephone conversations have already revealed that Kissinger lies blatantly in these memoirs about his alleged insistence, when negotiating with South American dictators, that human rights be a serious matter of consideration. Perhaps even more important, however, will be the dutiful fact-checking that will reveal his falsification of important information on such issues as the U.S. campaign to neutralize the revolution in Vietnam, our cynical and eventually genocidal support for Pol Pot, etc. -- one could go on for pages.
If Kissinger's words are dissected with the rigor we've applied to Menchú's accounts, he'll finally take his rightful place in history as one of the most egregious public liars of the 20th century. Where are the fact-checkers when we need them?!?
