Regarding the Edmund Morris biography controversy: To ask whether "it is legitimate to create fictional characters within a biography," is in effect to ignore the fact that all biographies are fictional creations. The fictive creation of a "real" character out of pieces of reality is precisely what the biographer does. How is Mr. Morris' creation any different?
