I applaud the creation and purpose of the task force, primarily because in my experience (27 years in countercult ministry), students are especially vulnerable to certain religious movements. This is true not only because of their circumstances, but also because several such movements employ deceptive recruitment methods.
There are those who believe that providing information about the teachings and tactics of such movements somehow is an attack on "religious freedom." These are the same people who suggest that cult victims are liars, and that the testimonies of apostates are manipulated by anticult- and countercult professionals. In their view, anyone who provides critical information about groups considered cults or sects, is "anti-religious," or "bigoted."
While claiming to provide balanced information, these individuals and organizations do their best to portray controversial religious movements in as good a light as possible.
