A certain dishonesty is inherent in any discussion of "cults." If a group is alleged to cause harm to students, that group should be identified by name and its alleged harm clearly identified. References to "cults," on the other hand, serve only to dishonestly attribute the alleged wrongs of each "cult" to all other accused "cults." It is grossly irresponsible of government and university officials to use the word "cult" in this way.
