The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY

Responses

I am a fourth year professor in the School of Health Professions at Southwest Texas State University. Over the past two years our classrooms/labs have been updated with technology which allows teachers to present course materials with computer generated, full-color text and graphics on large screen TVs.

This past semester I invested considerable time converting one of my lecture classes to this system thereby replacing the use of the blackboard and overhead projector. My student evaluations, although not specific to the new technology, were improved over the previous years. I, of course, can not scientifically prove that the technology caused the improvement.

Next year I would like to conduct research in another class which has two sections. I want to teach one with previous presentation materials and the other with the updated technology. At the conclusion of the semester I want to compare student performance, student evaluations of faculty and student feedback on the presentation media.

I am looking for an existing survey tool which can provide me with student feedback on the presentation media. Does anyone have such a tool which they would be willing to share or can they direct me to a possible source for such a survey? Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.
