The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY

Responses

Actually my students seem more attentive, appreciative, civil, and kind now than they used to be.

Perhaps it is because I am older, grayer and mellower. Perhaps it is because my lectures are actually getting better. Or maybe it is because more students recognize that higher education is more important than ever in today's economy.

Another factor may be that Rutgers has become more selective over time, so we have more serious students. Whatever the cause, I am thankful not to have to deal with the sorts of behavior my colleagues at some other institutions endure.
