The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY

Responses

I consider it unethical for a faculty member at a university to receive money from a commercial entity for any purpose except substantive work done for that company or for royalties or expenses involved in publishing. By "work" I don't include work publicizing the company and any such work should be not be done on university time.

Furthermore any payments which might be construed as affecting the faculty members opinions should be explicitly made public.

Finally, I am surprised that some faculty will sell themselves for so little.
