The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY

Responses

The mild irritation expressed by some of the respondents is most interesting. Of course, the original article was written by Elaine Showalter. Prof. Showalter's ruminations on fashion remind me of Stanley Fish proclaiming to the world that he drives a Jaguar. I am not accusing Prof. Showalter of sartorial hubris; I simply wish to join with the respondent who questioned the relevance of this discussion. In defense of Prof. Showalter I would add that I would much rather see her writing about fashion than theatre.
