COLLOQUY Responses

The Professor of Classics at the University of Sydney, Kevin Lee, is the only man I've seen wear a black beret and look good. When he wore this with a long coat that belted at the waist one rainy winter's day I was alerted to his good dress sense. His ability to dress not only well but appropriately was confirmed for me at the opening of the Australasian Universities Literature and Language Association (AULLA) conference in February last year. It was a typically hot sticky day for Sydney, and many assembled on the stage looked stifled by their dark suits. As AULLA president Kevin breezed up to the mike attired in long sleeved pale blue shirt and wheat-coloured trousers, giving him a relaxed, confident air that those sweating behind him lacked. This issue of appropriate male dress is complicated by hot climates.
