COLLOQUY Responses

|
Of course how we dress does not affect the correctness of our reasoning, or the value of our research. But teaching other humans is a big part of the life of an academic -- and human beings are exquisitely sensitive to appearance and clothing. After all, how we dress strongly affects who will want to associate with us, who will want to work with us, how much strangers are willing to trust us, and who is willing to mate with us. Thus it is not surprising that how we dress affects how carefully young men and women are willing to listen to us.
