The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY
THE QUESTION
RESPONSES
BACKGROUND

I would like to correct one item in what was included in the article about what I said. The Elsevier Science policy (which is part of our copyright transfer form) is that the paper that is submitted may also be posted to the author's Web site, but we request the author not to update that paper to include the results of refereeing and editing (i.e., not the final published paper). We feel that final paper reflects the value we have added in the publication process and that the textual integrity of this final paper is best preserved by reference to the published article (whether in print or on our Web site).
