The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY
THE QUESTION
RESPONSES
BACKGROUND

The real tragedy here is that we spent more than five minutes thinking about it. Enforce the law and move on.

The poor mother who exclaimed that she sent her kid "off to a prestigious institution, and they kill him in five weeks," must some day accept that she didn't raise her boy to act responsibly. The world is full of temptation and we are better for it. We must learn to just say no when faced with the choices of drugs, interns, graft, etc.

Between the temptation and our response we have the ability and in fact "response-ability" to make the right choice. It's a simple thing and doesn't require any research, grants or studies.
