The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY
THE QUESTION
RESPONSES
BACKGROUND

We can point the finger at many folks, fraternities, universities, bars, alcohol manufacturers, even society. All the debate makes for good conversation, but doesn't solve anything. The facts are that young people will drink. What we must do is to find a way for them to drink without causing undue harm to themselves or others. Increased legislation and crackdowns will only polarize opinions and force drinking to become more unregulated and dangerous. The solution, if there is one, is to make dangerous drinking a no longer socially acceptable option.

-- Jeff Schramm, Graduate Student and Fraternity Live-In Advisor, Lehigh University (posted 11/4, 10:04 a.m., E.S.T.)
