The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY

Responses

I know of no professor who would give a student a grade they didn't deserve. However, I know many professors who will give a student a chance to improve a poor grade by rewriting a paper, doing additional work, etc. To me, this is good educational practice.

I believe under such scholarship plans as HOPE students do work harder in order to maintain grades. As for avoiding tough classes -- students will take whatever coursework is necessary to get the degree that will get them into a career field of their choice.
