The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY
THE QUESTION
RESPONSES
BACKGROUND

As a librarian I don't worry too much about bringing in coffee to the library. Personally I don't like it much, but, as a professional, I can say that there are plenty of societies in the world that successfully mix eating and drinking with other activities.

The real issue is training our students and faculty to make adequate use of our electronic resources. And, a related issue, the funding of libraries which, I think most people will agree, is woefully under what it should be.

If we're going to successfully compete in this century as a world power we're going to have to do something to enhance our ability to understand and use information resources. Libraries have an important role in that process.
