Coffee shops located in libraries is certainly a double-edged sword. It may create an atmosphere that is similar to big bookstores and it may bring revenue into the library. However, if messes and litter result, it has also created problems. too often we shy away from saying no because we seem stuffy and old-fashioned but who cleans up the mess, pays for damaged materials, etc.? Does the atmosphere of the library become less studious? Some students think we are too far in that direction already.
