The library needs to reinvent itself. It's new role should extend beyond a knowledge repository to being a place for social interaction, group learning, and events space. Besides cafes, why not have computers with high speed internet access, network points, computing resources that students need but are not affordable for them (scanners, multimedia equipment, printers, etc.) and rooms for group project meetings. A well-designed environment certainly attracts more users.
