The Chronicle of Higher Education: Colloquy

COLLOQUY
THE QUESTION
RESPONSES
BACKGROUND

Dawne- A living wage is not an unreasonably high wage by local standards, it's the amount of money required to meet a workers needs according to those local standards.

As far as Nike's commitments go, I think that the only thing we can be sure of is their commitment to profit. Nike's support of the un-Fair Labor Association, should make us question its ability to eliminate sweatshops, not cause us to rally behind it and give Nike a pat on the back. There is little independent monitoring going on in the FLA and the "independence" of the monitoring is questionable.
