The greatest danger to philosophy is to leave it locked up in the Ivory Tower, where bad philosophy can thrive and good philosophy doesn't get the exposure it deserves. The greatest wrong to the public is not to engage it fully in philosophical discussion, when it is evident that most people are inclined to philosophize, and could use some encouragement and guidance from those who do it for a living.
I disagree with most of Singer's premises and with most of his conclusions. But I'm happy to see him struggling with issues that matter as much to the human race as they do to referees of articles with very narrow readership.
Now, if only there were a way to get the folks in the marketplace into this colloquy.
