Top 10 "Best for Vets" ranking notes services, support
From hosting the first Vietnam Memorial on a college campus to establishing the only Wounded Warriors education program for injured veterans to earn graduate degrees, the University of Kansas has a long history of support for the men and women in uniform.
And that support has been recognized nationally. Military Times Edge gave KU a top 10 ranking among public universities in its annual "Best for Vets" list and KU is one again on Military Friendly Colleges and Universities list developed by Military Advanced Education. Its list ”honors higher learning institutions that place a high value on service and support of veterans and their families, have sophisticated distance learning programs and quality academics.”
KU was cited for offering an office dedicated to military affairs, having a counselor able to provide support to military students, awarding credit for military training and service, offering support and discounts to military family members, participating in ROTC (Army, Navy and Air Force) and having an online distance learning program.
KU offers nearly 200 fields of study, including supply-chain management, established at the military’s behest, and an interagency studies concentration that specifically serves Army Special Forces officers and civilian officials. KU has an active faculty and student exchange program with nearby Fort Leavenworth and its Army Command College.
The Wounded Warrior Education Initiative gives soldiers the opportunity to earn graduate degrees and continue their military careers after suffering injuries that previously could end an active military career. It is only such initiative in the nation.
