2 of 12FIU opened its doors in 1972 to 5,667 students - the largest opening enrollment in U.S. collegiate history. Since that time, FIU has not only grown in volume but in tradition, including Marty's Cube that students spin for good luck before exams. (The Cube was donated by Marty Margulies to FIU students).
#3 FIU Football
3 of 12In 2002, FIU launched its first football program and competed in Division I-AA. Three years later it was moved into the Division I-A Sun Belt Conference and won its first bowl game in 2010, becoming the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl champions.

4 of 12Our BBC campus has a student body of more than 7,000. Its scenic landscapes encompass 200 acres of land that connects directly to the Bay. FIU's Schools of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Marine Biology, and Journalism and Mass Communication are headquartered at BBC.
