  • About the University of Kansas

    The University of Kansas is a major public research (AAU member) and teaching institution that operates through a diverse, multi-campus system. It offers about 200 fields of study, 13 professional schools including a college of liberal arts and sciences, and enrolls 30,000 students from 50 states and 112 countries. KU faculty ranks No. 2 in the nation for Fulbright Scholars.

    The historic campus is located on 1,000 acres in Lawrence, pop. 90,000. It is located 40 minutes west of Kansas City, 25 minutes from Topeka (state capital) and is served by Kansas City International Airport. Schools on campus are architecture, design and planning; business, education, engineering, journalism and mass communications, law, music, pharmacy, social welfare and the liberal arts college (including a school of the arts).

    Noted museums of art, natural history, pharmacy and athletics are on the Lawrence campus.

    Faculty generated $240 million in funding for research in fiscal year 2011. Notably the School of Pharmacy ranks No. 2 in the nation for NIH funding.

    KU is the home of the Jayhawks, competes in Division 1 athletics and is a member of the Big 12 conference.
