Need a quick way to frustrate the heck out of a typical college student? Try interrupting his or her wireless Internet connection: That has worked pretty well at both Harvard University and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
At Harvard, many students have had trouble with their dormitory-room wireless connections — a problem that has been caused, campus officials say, by bandwidth hogs who can sporadically overwhelm a wireless-network access point. The university is working to add more access points, according to The Harvard Crimson, but some students are less than pleased to be stuck using (gasp!) their boring old Ethernet cables.
Meanwhile, at Ann Arbor, significant portions of the campus wireless network seem to be incompatible with a particular wireless card that is popular with students, reports The Michigan Daily. Students can fix the problem themselves, though, by downloading new drivers that smooth out the difficulties. –Brock Read
