Wipe Out

June 16, 2006, 12:34 pm

A massive computer glitch at Prairie State College wiped out much of the work done by students and professors in their online and hybrid courses. College officials say they don’t know what caused the problem, other than that a single file corrupted the college’s course-management system, which is run by Blackboard. They had to rebuild 17 courses and cancel four summer courses. None of the students’ grades, financial data, or course schedules were affected, and college officials are beefing up their security and backup practices in hopes of preventing a similar incident from happening again.
