The Supreme Court’s decision in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. v. Grokster Ltd. left as many questions as answers regarding the future of peer-to-peer networking, experts say. For the past month, legal students and tech analysts have been debating one such question: Which side of the file-swapping fracas will start begging Congress to step in?
The answer, according to Jeff Howe of Wired magazine: "Possibly both, probably neither." Technology companies and the entertainment industry would each like more clarity on matters of digital copyright, he says, but neither group is in a good position to seek legislative aid. (Wired)
