David Duffield, founder and former chairman of PeopleSoft Inc., has donated $15.5-million from a foundation he started to save stray pets in New York City. PeopleSoft, which sold human-resource and business-finance software to many colleges, was recently bought out by the Oracle Corporation after a protracted takeover battle. Mr. Duffield had quietly resigned from PeopleSoft just weeks before the takeover and is worth an estimated $1.1-billion. He started the pet rescue foundation, Maddie’s Fund, in 1999 after his miniature Schnauzer, Maddie, died.
