Those who called for justice in the Sarah Palin e-mail hacking case may get their wish. David Kernell, a 20-year-old economics major at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of accessing Governor Palin’s Yahoo e-mail account without authorization, according to the Associated Press.
The report says that Mr. Kernell, the son of a Democratic Tennessee state representative, faces a maximum of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a three-year term of supervised release. His trial is set for mid-December. For now, he has been released on the condition that he will not own a computer and that he will use the Internet only for checking e-mail and doing class work. A presidential pardon seems unlikely, no matter what happens in November. —Scott Carlson
