University of Pennsylvania technology officials are recommending to students and faculty members that they not install Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 on their computers, according to an article published Friday in Information Week. The operating system is an upgrade to Vista.
The software reportedly is laden with bugs that make it difficult to download. Once computer users have downloaded it, many have found that it slows their PC’s.
The university’s information-technology department is advising campus computer users to stick with Windows XP or Vista until the glitches are corrected. The department says it will support Vista SP1 only when it is preinstalled on computers. —Andrea L. Foster
