Students at the University of Florida have spent months debating the merits of holding student-government elections online, and the conversation is unlikely to end anytime soon. A student committee, suggesting that the university get rid of paper ballots, has endorsed a "secure site" voting system, which requires students to cast their ballots online at designated locations.
But the committee erred, according to the The Independent Florida Alligator, when, citing "security concerns," it objected to a plan that would let students vote from their dorm rooms. The newspaper accused the committee of "artificially limiting turnout" by resisting a technology already in use on many campuses. (The Independent Florida Alligator)
