Turning Online to Fight Plagiarism

A few years ago, only a handful of institutions used Turnitin, an online tool that scours essays for evidence of plagiarism. But now thousands of colleges and high schools, many of which have seen academic misconduct rise with the growth of the Internet, regularly submit papers to the service.

Officials with the Pennsylvania State University system, for example, have signed on with Turnitin, in the hopes that the software will cut down on cheating. Last year Penn State reported 341 academic violations, a university record. (The Patriot-News)
