A student at Iowa Western Community College says he was expelled because he commented on his MySpace page that other students in his dormitory "needed to be shot." The Omaha World-Herald reported today that the 20-year-old student says he was kicked out on April 24. The student contends that college officials overreacted to his posting, which was a response to complaints about campus life by others.
The student admits his comments were ill-considered in light of the shootings at Virginia Tech but insists he meant no harm. Another post on the student's page, the paper notes, threatened physical violence against some people who had teased him. He says college officials gave him no chance to explain or defend his actions. The college has not commented on the incident, saying that disciplinary matters are confidential. –Josh Fischman
