Officials at a pair of institutions spent their weekends scrambling to inform students about computer-security breaches that exposed sensitive data.
At Purdue University at West Lafayette, a hacker appears to have gained access to a hard drive that contained a file with the Social Security numbers of over 2,400 former students, reports The Exponent.
Meanwhile, at the University of Colorado at Boulder, two computers containing data on almost 1,400 current and former students disappeared in late August. One of the machines has since been located, but the other is still at large, so campus officials have sent letters to everyone whose personal information may have been exposed, according to the TheDenverChannel.com. —Brock Read

Something like “3x – 2 = 10 = 12 = x = 4″ can be equated (pun intended!) to what our colleagues in the English department decry as a run-on sentence.
