An Internet company seems determined to bring online dating to colleges across the country—whether they want it or not.
A A federal judge ruled in April that the University of Texas at Austin was within its rights to block some 59,000 e-mail messages sent by White Buffalo Ventures to promote its university dating site, LonghornSingles.com. But the company—which runs more than 80 campus-specific dating sites across the country—has appealed the decision, arguing that the e-mail filtering was not justified by federal anti-spam laws.
The appeals court’s decision could play a major role in determining how far colleges can go to keep their networks free of unsolicited e-mail.
